Anbennar is, as of writing this, the most popular mod for Paradox’s Europa Universalis IV. I’ve been a developer on that mod for over 3 years, and it’s there that I discovered my love of game design. I’ve created gameplay elements and written full narratives for a menagerie of different nations during my time, and I hope to keep doing so for a long, long time to come. One day – hopefully soon! – I’ll use that same passion and experience to create entire games and worlds.
In the gaps between writing, coding, and being up to my knees in draw.io flowcharts, I completed a BSc in Politics and International Relations and an MA in International Relations: Global Security and Development – both done at Plymouth University. My favourite games include Cultist Simulator, Sunless Skies, Baldur’s Gate 3, Outer Wilds, and the Dark Souls series (including Elden Ring, but not Bloodborne because I will never own a PlayStation). I also have way too many hours on Destiny and Destiny 2, but we don’t talk about that.
I enjoy writing in a style that attempts to evoke two of my favourite authors; Alexis Kennedy and Madeline Miller. I favour lyrical and archaic diction, and very much prefer show over tell – watching people draw their own conclusions on what exactly is going on in my narratives is one of my greatest joys. I particularly enjoy telling stories with unique and unorthodox framing devices and perspectives, as well as playing with different ludonarrative elements to create fun gameplay alongside.
